The Master Program of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of UFU began its activities in August 2002. The Program is made up of the Academic Master's Degree, and its objective is the qualification and training of teachers, researchers and high level professionals within the Engineering and related areas.

The Master's degree course in Civil Engineering at UFU has a duration of two years. Students are admitted through a selection process that occurs annually. Students may be approved as regular or special basis. The Master Program of PPGEC has two concentration areas, each with two research lines. The first area is Structure and Civil Building has lines of the same name. The Water Resources and Environmental Sanitation Area, has the lines of Water Resources and Sanitation, and the line of Urban Infrastructure. The main courses in Civil Engineering related fields, which allow the graduate to apply for selection in the Program are:

  • Engineering in general (sanitary, electrical, mechanical, chemical, forestry, etc.);
  • Bachelor in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Geography;
  • Architecture and urbanism;
  • Water Resources;
  • Other engineering related areas.

The course requires the completion of 20 (twenty) credits in subjects, distributed in two common and specific category. The common core is one that all students must fulfill and encompasses "Directed Studies" I and II. The specific nucleus individually addresses each of the areas of concentration, with a total of 38 subjects. Of these about 50% of these are offered annually, divided into the first and second semester of each school year.

The PPGEC, although using classroom classes, has in its scope subjects with different approaches. Some theoretical disciplines are mostly expository, others have a more practical bias. However, all subjects work on scientific articles, often in the English language, and the preparation and presentation of seminars by students. In this way, students learn and develop their research in an interactive and cooperative environment.

The profile of the graduate of PPGEC is that of a professional trained to teaching, research, and consulting activities, in order to contribute to local, regional and national development, working in all segments of civil engineering. Our masters students work in education sectors in public and private institutions; municipal, state and federal public agencies (such as city halls, municipal water and sewage authorities, municipal and state transport secretariats, state environmental agencies and energy companies); private companies (mainly structural design, environmental consulting and construction firms); consultants (design engineers, field engineers and general consultants in the field of Civil, Sanitary and Environmental Engineering).
